DSS sends audible and visual alerts to the operator to help promote safe operating practices. It may help operations to minimise the likelihood of forward and sideways tip overs. It is a smart, simple, maintenance-free system with no serviceable components.
Here is how DSS functions.
- Vehicle System Manager (VSM) - the VSM or “brain” of the system continuously receives inputs from five maintenance-free sensors
- Lift Height Sensor – a sensor on the mast identifies if the carriage is above the lift height threshold
- Tilt Angle Sensor – a sensor on the mast tilt clevis continuously measures the angle of the mast
- Hydraulic Load Sensor – a pressure sensor in the control valve identifies if the truck is loaded above or below the weight threshold
- Speed Sensor – a sensor located on the transmission output continuously measures the truck’s speed
- Steer Angle Sensor – a sensor on top of the kingpin continuously measures the steering angle
Four sub-systems for stability
The innovative DSS technology for Yale Series N is made up of four sub-systems.
It includes the Lateral Stability System which automatically reduces the amount the truck will lean when turning. Corner Control will also limit the truck speed when turning. The High Lift Traction and Tilt controls limit truck speed when handling an elevated load that is higher than the carriage height. All these features are designed to reduce the likelihood of truck tip-overs.
