Lift truck operator assist solutions

Even the sharpest operators need an assist from time to time

Labor is scarce. Operators are overwhelmed. Don’t leave forklift safety to chance.

Operator assist solution continuum

Scalable, stackable operator support

Safety is a universal priority, but the type and extent of support that is most valuable for your lift truck operators is often specific to your warehouse. From systems that silently gather data in the background to shape better behavior and decisions, to active interventions that step in to help operators through tough situations, there is a level of assistance for each operation, wherever you are on your safety journey.

Alert and intervene

Steps in when operators slip up:

The right alerts and interventions can help operators avoid accidents by calling out hazards in real time or even stepping in automatically. They can spur operators to adjust how they are operating the lift truck or apply changes directly to help maintain stability, avoid collisions and keep trucks under control during unexpected situations.

Standard solutions cover the basics — obstruction and pedestrian awareness. Optional upgrades include speed controls, stability management, collision avoidance and custom location-based rules that shape lift truck behavior on the floor. The result: Fewer risks, steadier loads and more controlled operation.

Inform

Brings smart operations into sharper focus:

The right info keeps forklift operators and warehouse management in the know. With critical data in your hands, you know how lift trucks are being used, how operators perform, and when equipment needs attention.

Standard inform operator assist solutions are now included at no additional cost on many Yale models, tracking impacts, faults and performance to help warehouses better understand and manage their everyday operations. Advanced options push further. Operator access control, automated pre-shift checklist management and more help you cut downtime, sharpen accountability and run a tighter fleet.

See + hear

Make the invisible, visible:

Razor-sharp situational awareness improves warehouse safety. Awareness aids help operators see and be seen, enhancing visibility and confidence to spot hazards, move smarter and help others stay out of harm’s way.

Lights, alarms, mirrors and cameras assist operators in staying aware of their surroundings and tools like laser fork positioning and load weight displays help operators fine-tune handling, boost fork placement accuracy and keep loads poised with conviction.

Operator assist solutions FAQs

What are forklift operator assist solutions?

Operator assist solutions are designed to help forklift operators work more safely, efficiently and consistently. Some simply inform operators and managers, with inputs from the operating environment providing data that can be used to enhance operator behavior and equipment management. Other operator assist solutions, like lights, alarms and mirrors, do not respond to inputs but assist operators with awareness of their environment. Finally, active alerts and interventions warn operators of immediate hazards and can automatically adjust truck behavior through speed controls, stability management and other functions.

Will forklift performance suffer from active interventions to avoid obstacles?

No. Active intervention features are designed to support safety without sacrificing productivity. When sensors detect a hazard, the system may automatically adjust truck speed, stability or operating parameters to help the operator avoid an incident. Once the risk is cleared, the truck returns to normal performance. Rather than slowing operations, active interventions help maintain uptime by reducing accidents, product damage and unplanned downtime.

Can operator assist solutions allow lift trucks to push beyond their maximum load capacities?

No. Operator assist solutions do not increase a lift truck’s maximum rated load capacity. Forklifts are engineered with strict load ratings to protect operators, loads and equipment. Our operator assist technology functions within those limits.

Are operator assist solutions compatible with all working environments in different industries?

Select operator assist solutions are for use in indoor facilities, not outdoors, making them a strong fit for warehouses. But because operator assist solutions comprise a versatile toolset, the options cover a broad range of operating temperatures and include solutions that are resilient in outdoor work environments. Your local Yale® dealer can assess your operation and help you decide on the operator assist solutions that are best fit for your applications.

Are operator assist solutions available on all forklift models?

Not every operator assist solution is available on or compatible with every forklift model offered. Some operator assist solutions require part makeups — such as e-hydraulics, steering angle sensors or counterweights — that are specific to certain lift truck classes, power sources or models. For example, trucks without masts can’t be equipped with high-lift load tilt control. However, many of these solutions are available for a wide range of Yale lift trucks, including many core warehouse models. Your local dealer can review your fleet and equipment purchase plans and give you information about all of your operator assist options.

How expensive are operator assist solutions?

The cost of operator assist solutions depends on the provider and the needs of your operation. Standard solutions are factory-installed and included by default on most products. They’re designed to support daily performance across all environments. Advanced solutions are high-performance enhancements designed for specialized or demanding applications. It’s worth considering which of these capabilities is most valuable for your specific operation, and your local dealer can help you make that assessment.
